  31. CDM (CD-ROM Manager) 2.1 is the latest PUBLIC RELEASE version of a new
  32. powerful ARexx program that runs as a CLI/StdIO door for BBS's.  It is
  33. a CD-Rom file management/transfer utility with numerous features, that
  34. will be discussed later.   In this version, there are 7 different REXX
  35. scripts for the following CD's:
  36.  
  37.     o AMUC CD 1
  38.     o AMUC CD 2
  39.     o AMUC CD 3
  40.     o AmiNET CD 2
  41.     o AmiNET CD 4
  42.     o InterNET Info 02.95
  43.     o Night Owl 12

  45. Disclaimer:

  48. All files contained in the CDROM,  REXX and SCRIPTS directories can be
  49. altered or modified for your own use.  They are FREEWARE. All files in
  50. the  XPRD   directory  are  part  of  the   eXternal  PRotocol  Driver
  51. 1.13 package which is copyright Oliver Wagner, and is SHAREWARE.   All
  52. files in the LIBS: directory are  FREELY  DISTRIBUTABLE  external file
  53. transfer protocol libraries.  All files in the C: directory are either
  54. SHAREWARE or FREEWARE.  Information about registering any of the above
  55. are included when running the programs by themselves. This package can
  56. therefore be considered FREEWARE ,  and hence I take no responsibility
  57. of anything that should occur when running the included programs.  All
  58. have run without problems on an Amiga 2000HD w/ 5Mb RAM.

  60. Installation:
  61. ~~~~~~~~~~~~
  62.  
  63. Virtually all files and directories included in this package have been
  64. commented for your convenience.  Please take a moment to read these as
  65. they will assist you during your installation and understanding of how
  66. this entire package works.  To install the software, do the following:
  67.  
  68. 1)  Copy  ALL  files in the  C/  directory into your C: ( ie. Sys:C/ )
  69.     directory.
  70.  
  71. 2)  Copy the CDROM/ directory and all its contents to your DOORS: area
  72.     ( giving you a DOORS:CDROM/ directory ).
  73.  
  74. 3)  Copy ALL files in the LIBS/ directory into your LIBS: assignment.
  75.  
  76. 4)  Copy ALL files in the REXX/ directory to your  BBS:Rexx/ directory
  77.     and assign REXX: to that directory.
  78.  
  79. 5)  Copy the XPRD directory and all its contents to your DOORS: area.
  80.  
  81. 6)  MAX's BBS users, copy  ALL the files from the  SCRIPTS/  directory
  82.     to your Doors:MAXShell (assuming you have MAXShell installed). You
  83.     will probably want to assign MS: to the DOORS:MAXSHELL  directory,
  84.     but is not necessary.

  86. 7)  To setup the doors for use in MAX's BBS, do the following:
  87.  
  88.     * For the AmiNET 2 CD, an entry similar to what follows is needed:
  89.

  120.     This is due to the fact that you may wish to load this CD in parts,
  121.     as it contains several thousand directories in all. Read what is in
  122.     each of these CD##-StartUp files to find out how you can use these.
  123.     I've set mine up in 11 sections/categories.  Look in the InterNet/
  124.     directory in your Doors:CDROM/ path to find out what those are.

  126.     * Foe the Night Owl 12 CD, enter similar to what follows:

  131. 8)  To set up the any/all of the REXX files for use with standard  CLI
  132.     or StdIO supported BBS's, you will need to do as follows:
  133.  
  134.     o Add an entry to call one of the included CD##-StartUp scripts in
  135.       CLI mode (eg. for TransAmiga BBS users using TrShell/TAShell),or
  136.       add them into an ARexx script that enables you to load your  BBS
  137.       software's CLI door interface and run the respective programs.
  138.  
  139.     o The commandline for each .REXX file is as follows:
  140.  
  141.       AmiNET 2    ->  Rx AmiNET2.Rexx {Screen Length}
  142.       AmiNET 4    ->  Rx AmiNET4.Rexx {Screen Length}
  143.       AMUC 1      ->  Rx AMUC1.Rexx {Screen Length}
  144.       AMUC 2      ->  Rx AMUC2.Rexx {Screen Length}
  145.       AMUC 3      ->  Rx AMUC3.Rexx {Screen Length}
  146.       InterNET    ->  Rx InterNET.Rexx {Screen Length} {Dir File}
  147.       NightOwl 12 ->  Rx NightOwl12.Rexx {Screen Length}

  149.       Where {Screen Length} is the numerical value of the users
  150.       terminal screen length.

  152.       Where {Dir File} is the name of the directory listing file that
  153.       contains all the paths required by the InterNET.Rexx ONLY.

  155. 9) You should be complete at this point.  Test the desired version of
  156.    CDM out and ensure it works as you wish it to.

  160. Features:
  161. ~~~~~~~~
  162.  
  163. Each .REXX file (except for CDType.Rexx and CDType2.Rexx) are CDM 2.1,
  164. but different versions for different CD's.  The following is a list of
  165. features common to ALL these different MODES:
  166.  
  167.  o Support for 6 File Transfer Protocols.  I've included 2 other XPR
  168.    protocol libraries that you can add yourself.
  169.  
  170.  o Support for 11 different Archive formats.  I'll add more with the
  171.    next major update.
  172.  
  173.  o Support for ANSI Gfx ( 256 characters ), Color or B/W.
  174.  
  175.  o Support for passing the users's Screen Length.
  176.  
  177.  o Option to create your own LIBMENU file which is a list of all the
  178.    file libraries available, in a menu format.
  179.  
  180. The following is a feature common to the AMUC & InterNET Info MODES:
  181.  
  182.  o Since there are too many directories, these simply load a DIRS.TXT
  183.    file or similar containing the file paths.  When you change to the
  184.    different paths, you get a list of PATHS rather than the names  of
  185.    the areas.  Although, the path names are descriptive enough,  even
  186.    for the novice.
  187.  
  188. The following is a feature common to the AmiNET and Night Owl MODES:
  189.  
  190.  o These load a second file called DESC.TXT containing the library or
  191.    file area names.  These are included in the menu for the user.
  192.  
  193. The following is only found in the AmiNET MODES:
  194.  
  195.  o The option to view a .README or Long Description is available.

  205.  o My pal Kevin, for suggesting to add the VIEW ARCHIVE option when
  206.    doing a file listing, and including the Screen Length parameter
  207.    feature.

  213.  o Version 2.1 - 2.2
  214.  
  215.    - Added a user modifiable parameter in each CDM 2.2 .REXX script
  216.      to select the serial device you wish to use.  I completely
  217.      forgot to change this in earlier versions from nullmodem.device
  218.      which I was using for testing.  Oops!
  219.  
  220.    - Removed the Press [RETURN] to Continue after file transfers.
  221.  
  222.    - Added a parameter requirement for time left (in minutes) that is
  223.      passed when loading CDM, so your commandline should now include
  224.      an additional parameter for time left.  This then is used in the
  225.      CDM 2.2 program to do a check for online time left.  If the time
  226.      is 0 or lest than 0, it will quit and return to the BBS.
  227.  
  228.    - Updated all files in the SCRIPTS directory to pass the time left
  229.      argument.  Replace the old ones with these if you're using MAX's.
  230.  
  231.    - Changed the Main Menu to display time left.
  232.  
  233.  o Version 2.0 - 2.1
  234.  
  235.    - Changed CDM20.Doc to CDM.Doc to contain the 2.1 version of the
  236.      CDM Manual.  Newer versions of CDM, will simply have more items
  237.      added on to this HISTORY section.

  239.    - Included a full package, not including MAXShell for using this
  240.      software.
